The KGL Journey

Start with Discovery. Aim for the Global Stage.

KGL is an international English Olympiad designed to turn language learning into confidence, recognition and a clear sense of possibility.

One contest. One pathway. Many reasons to believe.

2
National Finals

3
Global Event

Your pathway

An international English Olympiad for young learners.

KGL is built around a simple idea: when young people are given a meaningful goal, English becomes more than a school subject.
KGL gives students learning English as a foreign language the opportunity to participate at their current CEFR-linked level, receive recognition for achievement and progress through a structured contest pathway.
The experience is designed to be challenging without losing sight of the educational purpose: helping students see what they can do, encouraging them to aim higher and giving schools and teachers a visible way to celebrate progress.
The contest is therefore both academic and motivational. It creates an international context in which students can test themselves, gain confidence and connect English learning with a wider world.
Why KGL matters

The value goes beyond the result.

A meaningful challenge gives learners, families and schools something positive to work towards.

🏫

How KGL works

A simple three-stage structure.

Begin with Discovery, aim for the National Finals and explore the possibilities of the Global Event.
Stage 1

Discovery

Begin at your current CEFR-linked level. Your school or Country Partner will explain registration, preparation and the arrangements for your first KGL challenge.
Stage 2

National Finals

Qualifying participants take the next step at national level. Follow the stage-specific guidance and celebrate the progress that brought you here.
Stage 3

Global Event

Selected finalists move towards the international stage, meeting learners from other countries and sharing a wider experience of achievement and connection.
The KGL philosophy

Healthy competition should inspire young people to do their best.

KGL is a contest, not a conventional school examination. The emphasis is on challenge, motivation and recognition rather than repetitive exam preparation.
Students participate within a clear framework, but the wider purpose is to encourage confidence, independence and pride in achievement.
“Give students a challenge that makes English feel important beyond the classroom.”
